For a permanent setup, skip the second phone entirely: a fixed IP security camera at the target streams straight to your phone or tablet over Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Mount it once, calibrate once, and any member with a tablet can walk up and train. RTSP and MJPEG streams are supported today, covering most common security cameras; ONVIF support is planned.
Security cameras aren't phone cameras. Their firmware actively suppresses sudden bright highlights — which is exactly what a laser impact is — and often strips the colour information a phone-based detector relies on. So IP Camera Mode switches to a dedicated Mono [IP Cam] detection engine that tracks rapid light-intensity changes instead of colour profiles, keeping detection working on hardware that would otherwise wash the laser out into a white glare. It engages automatically in this mode, and can also be selected manually in the target setup panel.
The camera stays mounted, aimed and calibrated. Once you find working detection values and confirm a test shot, those settings reuse every session on the same fixed camera.
One camera per lane, many members — anyone connects with a tablet and their own laser cartridge. Maintenance sits with the club, not each shooter.
Wired cameras give the most stable feed for permanent outdoor lanes — and you may be able to reuse security-camera infrastructure the range already owns.
IP cameras vary enormously between manufacturers, so here's what to expect up front:
Built-in buffering means the live view can lag by a second or two. Detection and scoring aren't affected — but the on-screen picture isn't instant, and you should know that going in.
Drop the stream to 720p or the lowest available resolution. Detection doesn't need 4K, and the lighter stream keeps the network smooth.
Security cameras auto-expose aggressively. Keep the target area dimmer than a typical room so the laser blink stays distinct instead of saturating into the background.
Battery event-based cameras often stream only during motion events and sleep after a few minutes. Use a powered camera with continuous RTSP streaming for uninterrupted sessions.
Fixed lanes are usually stable, but if ambient light does drift, nudging the Adaptation Speed slider up compensates without re-calibrating.
