Duo Pair Wi-Fi Mode

Duo Pair splits the job across two devices over a local Wi-Fi network: one sits at the target and does the sensing, the other stays with you and runs the drill. No internet connection is needed — a pocket travel router is enough. It's the setup behind our tested 30–100 m outdoor sessions, and a pairing arrangement you won't find in most dry-fire apps.

Why a Second Device Changes Everything

A single-device setup at 5–10 meters asks you to imagine distance. Your eyes never refocus, and the small eye-hand errors that decide real shots at range never show up. With the camera living at the target, you aim at true distance — where small sway becomes a large miss — so what sharpens is your actual depth perception and hold, not your imagination. And because the sensing happens downrange, your own device's camera quality, touchscreen vibration, or movement on the user side stops mattering.

Target-Side Device

Mounted on a tripod near the target — this device does the laser detection, so give it the better camera. Keep it and the target shaded, exactly as in Solo Mode.

User-Side Device

Stays with you and only displays the feed, scores and timers — so almost anything works, including a budget phone or a big tablet angled however reading is comfortable. It never needs to point at the target.

Simple Pairing

Pair by short code, pick from a device list, or enter an IP directly — from either phone. Back out on one device and both end the session together, so the two screens never fall out of step.

♻️ A Second Life for Your Old Phone

Millions of phones have been retired not because they stopped working, but because their mobile network technology aged out — while their cameras, processors and memory are still excellent. Duo Pair runs entirely over local Wi-Fi, so none of that matters here. That older flagship in your drawer, with the great camera and no SIM, makes a perfect dedicated target-side device: it lives in your range bag, holds its tripod mount, and keeps its calibration between sessions. A genuinely better fate than the recycling bin.

Router Placement — Stretching the Range

Duo Pair needs only a local network. A cheap travel router on a slightly elevated pole, with clear line of sight to both devices, is the whole infrastructure. And because the router is the middle of the link, placing it midway roughly doubles your working distance:

That's roughly 100 m or more of true user-to-target distance from a router rated for 60 m of open space — the layout we use for rifle sessions. In our testing: handgun drills run reliably at 30–50 m with the target-side camera on high zoom, and rifle drills to around 100 m with midpoint router placement, using standard laser cartridges. Cartridge brightness affects maximum range — always stay within the laser output limits that apply where you live.
